Christmas in Canberra

Canberra

The capital of Australia not to mention political capital, this city is Australia’s newest and most well-planned of them all. Canberra is a hive of culture, and history and not to mention such an interesting place to visit. Whether you are there for the politics and to visit new and old parliament houses or if you are interested in the war museums, shrines and statues this is the place for you!

So what does Canberra offer over Christmas time? Lights? Pop-up bars? Let's take a look.

  1. Local Lights – I know this is number one for me in every capital city but what better way is there to explore the city at night than by seeing the local light displays. Visit https://christmaslightsearch.com.au/canberra/ or www.facebook.com/CanberraChristmasLightsLocations to find the best streets this Christmas.
  2. Carols by Candlelight – Located at Stage 88 this is one for the family, hosting the Woden Valley Youth Choir and a huge range of local artists is a great way to start your Holidays.
  3. Pop-up Bar at the Canberra Centre – Take a break from your shopping, pop in to see Santa then grab a complimentary glass of wine at the Christmas bar located near David Jones on Level 1.
  4. Real Christmas Trees – Are you an authentic, real and traditional elf? Grab yourself a real Christmas tree by the RSPCA from the shelter this Christmas.
  5. Pet Photos with Santa – WHAT!!! I will be first in line with poppy the Warehouse Sausage to get my annual family photo this Christmas. Located at the Sweet Bones Bakery in Braddon for a $10 donation you will get 2-4 high-quality photos not to mention the decorations and outfits available for purchase. Not only does this bakery do pet photos but also South Point Tuggeranong, adds fun activities for the kids while their furry friends are present.
  6. YWAM Christmas Fair – Browse the beautiful stalls, food and gifts at this quaint Christmas fair, save this one for your Chrissy Presents and dinner.
  7. High Tea – Need a good Christmas catchup with friends or family? Well come and visit Piallago Estate where they host the Christmas High Tea. Specialising in stunning views, festive tastes and the best wine in the region this is one for the adult bucket list.
  8. Canberra City Celebrations – Walk the streets this Christmas to find the kaleidoscopic Christmas tree, and colourful summer decorations more than deck the halls. With the city walk being the epitome of the city centre, buskers play for free, family activities are set up and the street comes alive.
  9. Visit Santa – There are many places to see Santa this Christmas with the Canberra centre setting up a Christmas wonderland and the Outlet Centre also hosting the big man this Christmas.
  10. Lightbulb Christmas Special – A light-hearted and fun event with a night of comedy and Improvised Carols you won’t leave with a sore belly from laughing so hard!
  11. Rainbow Paws Program Doggy Christmas Party – An amazing event that invites dogs and their human friends to participate in a fun and family-friendly day. Including colouring-in competitions, lucky dips and not to mention the selfies with Santa are a big hit with the paws and hands.
  12. Christmas Sparkle Market – Head over to the Pearce Community Centre for a crowd-free event that features little markets of makers and artisans.
  13. Sensitive Santa Photos – This pulls on the heartstrings! Are Santa Photos stressful in your family? Well, worry no more, this gorgeous idea has hit Canberra by storm and lets kids have memorable photos in a relaxed environment for kids with sensory challenges. Please note you need to book this space.
  14. Ordinary Ornaments Workshop – Sip on glorious Christmas cocktails and make some truly terrible Christmas ornaments. It’s all a bit of fun and a way to spend time with your friends this Christmas.
